The best romantic getaway spots in South Australia

You don’t need to move a mountain to arrange the perfect romantic getaway. In fact, your next romantic escapade could be as effortless as a stroll by a sapphire-blue lake, a memorable swim alongside playful dolphins or a sip of something special overlooking rolling green vineyards. Romantic getaways in South Australia let you effortlessly reconnect, recharge and love life. Here are some of our favourite memory-makers!

Hahndorf

Brimming with old-world charm, Hahndorf brings romance to life in the beautiful Adelaide Hills. Established in 1839 by German settlers, today you can sip in the town’s historic ambience at one of the many restaurants, bars or vineyards. Dine on in style at the intimate Haus Restaurant, or enjoy some European classics and Bavarian beer at The German Arms.

The picturesque Adelaide Hills wine country is yours to explore – do it at your own pace by hiring a bike (with a supplied pannier for your wine purchase, of course) from Bike About. For another day trip, the Barossa Valley is only an hour’s drive. Enjoy one of the winery tours Barossa Valley has to offer and sample some unique Barossa Shiraz – you’ll find over 90 Cellar Doors to explore.

Where to stay

Relax in comfort at old-world The Studios by Haus, near Hahndorf’s German-heritage pubs and restaurants. In the heart of town, you’ll also find luxurious The Manna by Haus. The Lodge offers cosy accommodation that is perfect for couples.

Enjoy a cosy dinner afterwards with spectacular views of the lake and city at Thyme @ The Lakes. This acclaimed restaurant serves creative and seasonal cuisine and cocktails. In the centre of Mount Gambier you’ll also find the superb Riddoch Arts and Cultural Centre – check out the evening light show and the fascinating ‘Volcano’ screening.
