Sitting along the banks of the Mersey River and the Bass Strait coast, Devonport is a busy coastal city and Tasmania’s third largest city. Home to the arrival and departure point of the daily Spirit of Tasmania ferry to and from Melbourne, it provides a great base to explore the rugged region.
With beautiful mountainous and coastal views, the city is close to some of Tasmania’s most famous heritage towns and national parks including the stunning Cradle Mountain. Rich farmland envelopes the city, producing almost half of Tasmania’s vegetable crops. From Devonport you can follow the Cradle Coast Tasting Trail, exploring the handcrafted produce of the dedicated growers, inspired by the renowned ideal growing conditions of the region.
