Top Father’s Day Getaway Ideas in Australia

Not sure what to get dad this Father’s Day? Let’s be honest, he probably has enough socks and ties to last him the rest of his life, and if he’s anything like our dads, he’ll only be wearing three of them on rotation. We reckon he’ll appreciate some of these activities from right around Australia to make him feel special. We’ve got the perfect accommodation options for you on ChoiceHotels.com.

1. Melbourne

Dads in Melbourne should be treated to an afternoon at Holey Moley Golf Club. The neon lights against the fluorescent courses really make this experience unique and probably different from the golf courses he usually frequents. Shout him a beer at their fully stocked Caddyshack bar and run through a variety of inspired holes that frequently change, including the infamous Game of Thrones themed hole that is made entirely of iron putters.

2. Sydney

Get away from the busy city and head out for a day of fishing! A quick trip north west of Sydney CBD to the Hawkesbury River will give you the best shot at catching a few monster fish – There are just so many fishing spots along this mighty river. The real prizes of this area are flathead and jewfish, and if you’re feeling inspired to head further out, don’t forget to check out a few other top fishing spots here.

3. Perth

If your dad is a fan of animals, we recommend taking him out to the Perth Zoo, where entry is officially free for all fathers on this special day. From elephants and zebras to binturongs and red pandas, they’ve got a whole range of animals on display here!

The rangers hold daily exhibitions, where they teach you all you need to know about some of the special creatures that make their home here. Tune in for the Crocodile Talk, where you can meet the half-tonne Estuarine Croc who, fun fact, only eats once a month when winter hits. With plenty of displays and attractions, a day at the zoo is the perfect outing for any dad.

4. Brisbane

Treat dad to an afternoon of adrenalin pumping action at the recently renovated Go Kart Brisbane, by sliding and drifting across the slick 425m track around the arena. There’s now a second level added along to a bridge that allows riders to power their way along a monster curve and loop back around to the start. All karts feature the latest European driving technology ensuring the driver’s safety, all the while providing a smooth ride and enjoyable time for all.

5. Canberra

Treat dad to an epic feast for dinner at Marble & Grain Steakhouse. With dark timber panelling and polished brass highlights, this place is reminiscent of a European steakhouse, something dad will undoubtedly enjoy. The warm and hearty menu features locally sourced produce, including beef, venison and lamb. The ‘Marble & Grain Butchers Board’ is a smorgasbord of meat, with ribs, steak, bone marrow, chorizo and sausages just to name a few.
