As Kleenex’ favourite season, Winter tends to get a bad rap. Usually associated with cold feet and a runny nose, us Aussies tend to avoid it by jetting off to the equator in a bid to defrost. But winter doesn’t have to be all bad. The frosty season can mean mulled wine and open fires… and cosy romantic getaways! Here are our top romantic getaways from Perth city. Book your accommodation at

1. Bunbury

Less than a 2-hour drive from Perth city, you’ll find Bunbury. This location tends to stay out of the spotlight a little bit making it ideal for a romantic getaway. Aside from its beautiful beach, Bunbury has a delicious food scene, a heaving animal wildlife park and an art gallery that is worth a visit. Notable activities include visiting the farmers market, taking a trek for a scenic lookout at Marlston Hill or the Bunbury Lighthouse!

2. The Margaret River

A three-hour drive South of Perth city you’ll find Western Australia’s Margaret River. The Margaret River is renowned for being a hot spot for foodies and wine enthusiasts. But along with having some of the best produce in.. wait for it.. the WORLD, Margaret River has many activities perfect for a romantic getaway. Explore the caves, walk to the lighthouse, or park yourself at any one of the local wineries… The opportunities are endless!

3. Albany

Typically attractive for its photogenic waters, Albany seems to be more popular in the summer time. However, don’t be fooled by the hues of blue and green- there’s plenty to do in the colder climate! Albany is about a 5 hours drive from Perth city, but the trek is well worth it! Visit the National ANZAC Centre, or Albany’s Historic Whaling Station or dine at Three Anchors restaurant.

4. Rottnest Island

Home to the #QuokkaSelfie, Rottnest Island is a great romantic getaway location. Just a 25 minute ferry ride from Perth city, this quiet location is great even in the winter time. Go on a Segway tour, take a walk to the lighthouse, visit the WWII guns and tunnels or whale watch!

5. Perth Hills

Just a quick 45-minute drive from Perth City you’ll find this magically romantic location. It’s famous for having great lakeside activities, however Perth Hills provides so much more than that! There are beautiful national parks and state forests just waiting to be explored as well as camel riding, wine tasting and even fruit picking (be sure to check seasonal information!)
