Ah, Valentine’s Day – traditionally the day where lovers express their love for one another through roses, gourmet chocolates and sparkling jewellery, or as others may see it – the day the florist, chocolate and jewellery industries make their fortunes by capitalising on hapless blokes (generally speaking, of course!) leaving Valentine’s Day plans to the last minute!

There’s so many ways Valentine’s Day can be enjoyed around the country, and Brisbane is in the enviable position of being one Australian capital city that’s got something for everyone wanting to celebrate this love-filled time of year, regardless of budget.

If you’re a couple (or wooing someone you want to be in a couple with!) that enjoys the great outdoors, Brisbane really has you spoilt for choice.

Combining the great outdoors and a classic rom-com movie is made easy with the Moonlight Cinemas in New Farm.  They’re showing the classic ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ on Valentine’s Day, so grab a delicious picnic and watch Audrey Hepburn in one of her most famous roles.

For those who are after something a little more athletic, climbing Brisbane’s Story Bridge and enjoying the spectacular views across the city could be the thing for you and your loved one.  If you’re keen on the view, but not so keen on the climbing part or being exposed to the elements, ensconce yourself in one of The Wheel of Brisbane’s air-conditioned gondolas, to be graciously swept around the wheel, with none of the fear (or physical challenge) of climbing the bridge!  The gondolas take you 60 metres into the sky for great views of the city, Brisbane’s river and the beautiful parklands that make up South Bank.

The Brisbane Lookout (part of the Mount Coot-tha area) is another great spot to get a great vantage point of Brisbane and all the way out to Moreton Bay.  There’s a restaurant and café located at the lookout, so you can have a delicious Valentine’s Day lunch or dinner while you take in the glorious views.

Brisbane is home to many well-renowned restaurants and bars – Valentine’s Day is a great time to take a loved one to his/her favourite one to indulge in a delicious meal and a glass or two of wine.  Of course, if you’re after something a little more cozy (and easier on the wallet!), there’s nothing like grabbing fish and chips and finding somewhere to sit and watch the sun go down on the most romantic day of the year.  Remember, it’s not about how much money you spend, but the time and effort you go to show just how much your loved one means to you.
