Known locally as ‘God’s Country’, there are a myriad of things to do on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. From the famous sands of ‘Summer Bay’ at one end of the peninsula to the bustling, cosmopolitan suburb of Manly at the other end. The Northern Beaches of Sydney boast a range of activities and a laid back attitude.

Whale Beach

Foodies will love the eclectic choice of chic restaurants and trendy cafes covering every cuisine you can imagine at prices to suit all budgets. The Manly foreshore restaurants offer upmarket dining while those eateries tucked into the alleys and backstreets offer quality food at affordable prices. Enjoying a cocktail or a meal at the stunning Jonahs restaurant, perched high above the spectacular Whale Beach is one of the top things to do on the Northern Beaches of Sydney.

Newport Arms Hotel is Australia’s largest waterfront beer garden and family hotel located on the shores of picturesque Pittwater is a great place for an afternoon beverage or casual meal, and the outdoor playgrounds make it ideal for families with young children.

Palm Beach also known as Summer Bay

Visit the set of ‘Home and Away’ at one of Sydney’s most famous suburbs Palm Beach, otherwise known as ‘Summer Bay’. Scenes are shot regularly in the area so the chances of getting the opportunity to watch some of the iconic show being filmed are good. A short (but steep) walk to the nearby Palm Beach Lighthouse provides spectacular views of Pittwater, Brisbane Waters and the Palm Beach spit.

All the beaches of the Northern Beaches of Sydney have their own charm and appeal. Beaches such as Manly and Dee Why are busy and flanked by restaurants and shops, Warriewood and Bungan beach are quiet and secluded while Narrabeen and Avalon are known for their great surf.

There are regular markets along the peninsula featuring a range of wares from unique handmade jewellery to local arts and crafts, vintage items and much more. Manly holds weekly art and craft markets, while many of the other suburbs host monthly markets. Palm Beach markets and Narrabeen’s Berry Reserve markets are two of the best.

Families will love the outdoor lifestyle including all kinds of water activities such as surfing, swimming and paddle boarding at the beaches in addition to kayaking, wind surfing and sailing in Pittwater. There are also beautiful walking and cycling tracks through the surrounding bush and around the waterways such as Narrabeen Lake and Pittwater.

Manly Sea Life Sanctuary

Manly Sea Life Sanctuary situated in Manly Cove with its sharks, penguins and turtles gives families an insight into the local sea life. A local wild colony of Fairy Penguins lives underneath nearby busy Manly Wharf and can be seen returning to their nest each evening to the delight of passers by.

Narrabeen beach

The beer garden and bistro adjacent to the white sands of Narrabeen beach is a lively venue perfect for families, singles and couples to enjoy a social drink or a good value meal in a great location. Narrabeen is located midway along the Northern Beaches of Sydney which makes our Northern Beaches accommodation an ideal base to explore all the things to do on the Northern Beaches of Sydney.
