Located in the North-East of Tasmania, historic George Town was settled in 1804, two years before the neighbouring city of Launceston and named after King George III – who also lent his name to the nearby Mount George. George Town is the regional centre of the larger George Town Council local government area.

With plenty of buildings dating back to the 1800’s – mostly notably ‘The Grove’ home, a convict-built pilot station and The Watch House, a former town gaol now gallery – George Town is a hotspot for historians and culture buffs.
